Hi, I’m David Axon
On Sundays, I post a chapter of my novel Wraith’s Pit, a military thriller. On Wednesday, I post about the writing process and anything else that comes to mind. On most other days, I post short, short stories about wood, the faceless man, happy faces, and other interesting ideas that just might change your life or at least make you smile.
Wraith’s Pit: Revenge, on the Edge of Sanity
I’m still experimenting with all the ways in which an author (and all artists) can earn a living from their craft as part of the creator economy. I welcome any suggestions from any writers, creators, or readers. PAID subscribers ($5 monthly or $50 yearly—now, there’s your bargain) get full access to all Chapters, plus bonus posts with writing discussions and special bonus treats, including Q&A sessions and comment threads, where I’ll listen to you (and take occasional requests!), and we can all get together and talk about what’s on your mind.
I’d previously written four novels to Wraith’s Pit, never published, but none struck home like this one. The combined experience of three deployments to Afghanistan as a Special Forces Soldier and one as a contractor working with Special Forces in Afghanistan required me to look backward. Those experiences at the time were nothing out of the normal to me and those around me, but as I wrote, I realized how distinctly different they are from the people I meet on a daily basis today. Not everyone wants to be an airborne, combat diver, sniper, demolitions expert, combat veteran, but they want to read about them. Wraith’s Pit is a perfect vehicle to delve into some of the experiences I had in Afghanistan and beyond, turned into a fictionalized story of revenge, but maybe not so much redemption. If you want to feel what it’s like for Mike Mason and his quest for ruthless retribution against BaaBaa Hotak with the added spice of real events, now’s the time to subscribe. I published Chapter One on August 6, 2023. Say hello to Baabaa Hotak and his lifelong friend Badi.
I’m always open to ideas and questions when it comes to Mike and his adventures or mine. Feel free to message me, start a chat, hit me up on how you’d like to see the novel continue. I’m already 150,000 words in, but if someone has a suggestion and it adds to the story, I’ll incorporate it. If you’re interested in my experiences, same as above, hit me up.
I joined the Marine Corps way back when. I was an East Coast Marine and went to Paris Island for boot camp, then Camp Gieger at Camp Lejeune for Infantry Training. After a brief stint as a machine gunner in 3rd Bn 6th Marines, I went to Kaneohoe Bay Marine Corps Air Station Hawaii. After, I joined the Army and went to the Special Forces Qualification Course and on to 10th Group. From there, I was in 20th group and finally 3rd Group, where I spent the majority of my Army career. I’ve had the opportunity to travel all over the world. Admittedly, some of those places were not the kind of places a tourist might want to visit. I also lived in Europe for five years, where I was lucky enough to have many more adventures.
